QUIP, together with the Department of Physics at RPTU Kaiserslautern-Landau, is organizing a special event: On November 18, the renowned science author Thomas de Padova will visit Kaiserslautern to read from his latest book, Quantenlicht – Das Jahrzehnt der Physik 1919–1929 (published by Carl Hanser Verlag).
With a keen sense for historical context, scientific expertise, and linguistic precision, de Padova brings to life the years between the end of the First World War and the rise of quantum mechanics. It was a period in which researchers such as Albert Einstein, Niels Bohr, Werner Heisenberg, and Erwin Schrödinger shaped the foundations of our modern understanding of the world through their groundbreaking discoveries.
His work not only explores the physical concepts of this era, but also the personalities behind them — their doubts, their courage, and their pursuit of knowledge. The result is a fascinating panorama that uniquely connects science and contemporary history.
